Community Investment
Purpose is to carry our the Board's vision of building a caring community by investing the resources entrusted to the United Way in agencies and programs that demonstrate results in meeting the objectives of the community's health and human service agenda.
The Community Investment Committee's responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the fund distribution process, including agency applications and reports
- Assist in ensuring that policies and procedures are in place to support the committee's work of evaluating avenues of resource deployment
- Stay knowledgeable about agencies and programs being funded
- Work with Governance & Leadership Committee to ensure community needs are being met by the Agencies funded
- Assist in implementing policies and procedures consistently and equitable in regard to all agency and program funding requests
- Works with the Campaign Chair and Executive Director to recommend the annual campaign goal
Executive
Purpose is to exercise all of the powers of the board to manage the business of the United Way when the Board of Trustees is not in session, within the authority granted it by the Board and except in matters required by law to be taken by the board. Carrying out the Board's vision of building a caring community by ensuring the United Way staff possesses the skills and competencies necessary to perform their respective duties.
The Executive Committee's responsibilities include:
- Personnel policies and records
- Job description
- Compensation and benefits
- Recruitment and hiring practices
- Personal retention
- Performances appraisals and staff development
- Carry out and implement strategic planing
Governance & Leadership
Purpose is to carry out the Board's vision to bring together the people and resources of Miami County to help build a healthy, happy and strong community of which we can all be proud by developing and implementing plans to encourage leadership training throughout the community through activities that may be recommended.
The Governance & Leadership Committee's responsibilities include:
- Assist in preparing a slate of officers to submit to the Board of Directors
- Assist in compiling a demographic grid of current board members and identifying any segments of the community not represented
- Working to recruit new members for the Board of Directors on an ongoing basis
- Recommend to the Board of Directors possible candidates for the Board of Directors
- Assist in monitoring the attendance of the Board members and taking action as outlined in the attendance policy
- Provide new Board of Directors an orientation packet
- Anticipate the future and envision what the needs are for Miami County by listening to the community, conducting market research and surveying community assets and needs
- Ensure training opportunities for leaders in Miami County in conjunction with Leadership Miami County
- Continue pursuing leadership opportunities toward enhancing the quality of life in Miami County
- Keep the board informed of government issues affecting United Way
- Keep the board informed of changes in the community that might affect board action
- Analyze policies and procedures for addressing needs in the community
- Communicating the impact United Way’s work has in and on the community
- Educating the public about philanthropy and ways to engage in thoughtful charitable giving
- Working through the media and personal contacts to meet these aims
Special Events
Purpose is to carry out the Board's vision of building a caring community by planning and organizing non-campaign related special events that will build awareness of the mission, vision, and values of the United Way among stockholders; report to the community plans for such events and result of the events; support each functions of the United Way (deployment, mobilization, volunteer development, etc) through these events.
The Special Event Committee's responsibilities include:
- Assist with research determine which events would be most effective and have the greatest impact in our community
- Develop a yearly plan and time-line for special events that are not exclusively campaign-related, including, but not limited to Make a Difference Day and Day of Caring activities
- Assist with organizing special events, recruiting volunteers , finding sponsors, communicating to the public, assigning tasks, etc.
Finance
Purpose is to carry out the Board's vision of building a caring community by ensuring the United Way is fiscally accountable and fulfills all legal and regulatory requirements.
The Finance Committee 's responsibilities include:
- Assist in implementing policies and procedures to ensure that all funds, property and securities of the United Way are managed prudently and responsibly
- Review annual operating budget
- Monitor the fiscal performance of the organization through monthly reports to the board
- Review and evaluate annual audit of the organization
