 EDUCATION STRATEGIES
 

TARGET

  • Children enter Kindergarten ready to learn

STRATEGIES

  • Provide children with high quality early education settings
  • Provide tools to enhance early childhood education programs
  • Help parents gain new skills to educate and motivate their children
  • Increase access to books
  • Support after-school programs that foster academic success
  • Provide mentoring and peer enrichment opportunities
  • Help parents gain new skills to support their children’s education
  • Support career building programs to improve job readiness skills
  • Help youth engage in behaviors that promote positive transition into adulthood

ACTION STEPS

  • Convene an early childhood education taskforce to explore community needs and resources
  • Partner engagement to expand resources
  • Continue to support the project plan to: Distribute books to children, Promote the benefits of reading to parents and community, Partner engagement to expand resources

HEALTH STRATEGIES

  • Citizens are healthy and happy

STRATEGY

  • Support programs to help citizens gain new knowledge, skills & techniques to benefit personal health
  • Provide access to dental and vision services and equipment
  • Promote activities to reduce obesity
  • Promote healthy and drug-free lifestyles

ACTION STEPS

  • Partner engagement to expand resources
  • Promote benefits of healthy weight management

INCOME STRATEGIES
 

TARGET

  • Citizens are able to be financially stable
  • Citizens live productive and stable lives

STRATEGY

  • Support access to job readiness services, soft skills training, and continued education opportunities
  • Support volunteer income tax assistance program (VITA) to recover Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) dollars
  • Expand financial literacy through education, counseling and financial resources
  • Improve access to assistance to meet basic needs (food, clothing, rent/mortgage, housing, utilities, medicine, transportation, etc.)
  • Support programs that help citizens gain safe and stable living environments

ACTION STEPS

  • Partner engagement to expand resources
  • Facilitate conversations with Workforce Development to: Promote services, Create linkages to assistance programs, Provide materials and public awareness of Work One, Increase business usage of Work Keys (job skill assessments)
  • Facilitate local Financial Stability Coalition to build relationships, expand resources, and plan for the 2011 EITC program
  • Implement EITC program
  • Convene partners to establish financial mentoring program
  • Support 2-1-1
  • Distribute FamilyWize prescription discount cards
