Emergency Food & Shelter Program

The award to the EFSP of $120,000,000 for Phase 32 is slightly greater than the funding level received in Phase 31.

Miami County has been selected to receive an award under Phase 32 of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) based upon the available statistics. This jurisdiction's award is based on their jurisdiction's total number of unemployed as compared to the total number of unemployed in all qualifying jurisdictions.  Miami County’s has been awarded $17,165.00 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in this area.

The selection is made by the National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and consists of representatives from The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, United Jewish Communities, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, and United Way of America, which will provide the administrative staff and function as fiscal agent. 

A local board consisting of American Red Cross, Jewish Community, Miami County Helping Hands, Miami Nation of Indians Peru Ministerial Association, Peru Housing Authority, Peru Township Trustee, St. Vincent De Paul, The Salvation Army, United Way of Miami County will determine how the funds awarded to Miami County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service organizations in the area.

The local board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.  Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local organizations chosen to received funds must:

  • be private voluntary non-profits or units of government,
  • have and accounting system,
  • practice nondiscrimination,
  • have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/shelter programs, and
  • if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.
